Tell us about how you plan, if at all, to improve the quality of the foods you eat in the new year. Are you simply planning to eat better, or is there a specific goal you’d like to reach? Are you adding more vegetables, or replacing one unhealthy snack with a healthy one? Are you going to try to make more meals at home? Tell us about it here!

Last year due to our family's busy schedule we averaged home cooked meals twice a week. This year even though our schedules are still just as busy, I would like my family to eat out less and eat home cook meals more..

Eating healthy is an on-going struggle with four active kids at home.  This year I am looking to try to be better at making/buying healthier after-school snacks.  I would prefer my kids eat less processed snacks but those are definitley easier to grab.  With a little more planning and preparing on my part, I am hoping to make them a little more healthy this year.

Planning on eating more vegetables and less processed foods. Notice I feel better when I eat less carb related foods and exercise at least 30 minutes a day.

Now that the holidays are over, my husband and I are back to less sugar in our diets. We didn't blow it too bad, but we both know that if we were to continue to eat a higher level of sugary foods on a daily basis, we'd soon gain weight and my husband could be in jeopardy of diabetes, even though he is slim and runs 5 days a week. Genes - we can't control them but we can do some things to keep them from overtaking us!

I always keep in mind "eating to live rather than living to eat" when preparing snacks or meals. It is a way of life for our family.

I've eaten healthy for several years now, but this year I'm challenging my whole family to get involved!

I do small changes and goals so I can acheive them and then keep increasing until I'm where I want to be.  I resolved to drink more water (so I start with adding a glass a week until I reach my goal; one extra glass is not too hard but adding all 8 at once seems impossible!).   I also want to eat more fruit and veggies, so once again I will add one extra  a day and increase from there.

I've been trying to eat healthy for the past couple of years but this year I'm going to step it up a notch and also add more exercise.

We have eaten out far too much in the past few years. I have begun making more double sized meals and freezing half. Now I can go to the freezer for a quick meal on those busy nights, instead of eating out so much. Also on nights that we go out I skip the dessert and snacks after dinner. I am also trying to get more activity in my days because I am at my desk on the computer most of the time. I opt to take things up the stairs more often instead of letting things pile up and making only one trip with an armful. So far so good!!

I have pledged to eat more fruit.  Hsd some clementines today.  And have had fruit everyday so far.  I know it is only the first week but I am determined and it is starting to become a habit.  My husband who loves fruit helps me keep motivated as well.

I am always trying to reduce the amount of processed food my family eats. It's a challenge, but I think it's worth it. My daughter's red dye allergy, diagnosed in 2011, was a wake up call to me about how many unnecessary substances are in our food supply.

Dr. Oz has become my newest buddy. I plan on adding a lot of fish, nuts, and whole grains to our diet.  Today I made soup using leeks which is a first for me.  I plan on introducing the family to miso soup, and sea weed.  This is gonna be fun!  We already eat lots of fresh fruit and nuts like almonds and cashews along with peanuts.  But chia seed and flax seed will be new.

There's a big pot of bean soup on the stove as I wrtite this. I'll freeze several quarts and have the basis for some healthy meals ready. Batch cooking really helps out on busy days and saves us from eating out. We certainly don't need the extra calories that come from eating out alot....much less the expense.

Me and my husband started eating big salad before dinner everyday.  I add grapes, apples, nuts, and eggs to it and we just love it!!  Hopefully I'll have to start using the stepper at least once a day :-)

Going to make better, healthy choices  this year.  More veggies on my plate and less starches. Chips will no longer be allowed in my house! I know I could do anything that I set my mind to do and my mind is ready to make some serious changes in 2012!

I'm constantly trying to eat better. Had a bit of a holiday setback in watching my choices, but have gotten back on track.

This has been an ongoing problem in our family, but my daughter has started to eat a fruit and a vegetable with every meal and add fiber rich treats, she has lost 15 pounds and went down 3 pant sizes...so starting now that is going to be the rule for everyone, when you are hungry you must eat a fruit or vegetable first, then if you are still hungry you can have your snack, fruits and veggies will be served with everymeal as well. Instead of that glass of juice in the am, we are going to try to eat the actual fruit instead...

Yes!!! Definitely a goal.  More fruits and vegies.  If I cut up the fruit and put it out, generally my family will eat more of it.

We are going to be preparing more meals made completely from scratch and cut back severely on prepackaged foods.  Minimizing salt and sugar as well as chemical preservatives is a big concern in our entire family.  We started our new and improved eating and cooking plan in mid-December and stuck with it throughout Christmas and New Year's holidays so feel that we are off to a good start.

I am already dedicated to working out but trying to eat better is the biggest challenge. I am trying to cut back on the sweets by replacing them with as many different types of fruits as possible. That way when someone wants something sweet there are too many healthy options to not try at least one.
