Laundry Pre-Treatment Run Out?

Category: Home
If you discover you're out of your favorite laundry pre-treater just as you prepare the next load of laundry, do not panic. Mix together 1/2 Cup of milk with 1/4 Cup of distilled white vinegar and let clabber. Pour this solution right on those hard to get out stains, and rub the clothing gently (against itself). Then run the laundry as usual- easy! You may not want to do this all the time, but it's a great way to keep the laundry cycle going in a pinch!

peroxide is perfect for blood, I use to work at a vet. and we used this on our scrubs all the time, I use it on my regular clothes at home too, no problems, sometimes it takes several reapplications, but just let it soak in, even works on blood that's been washed and dried already

There are so many good tips on this post!! I think I like the peroxide with amonia sounds like a good one! I've used dish soap (like Dawn) when I was out of my pre-treater before and that worked with a little rubbing of the fabric together.

This is one I haven't heard of but willing to give it a try.  Might come in handy as I've got a new grandbaby on the way.

I've never heard of this. I suppose I'd consider it, but I usually just do the "straight-on" detergent like others said.  I'll remember it though--will be hard to forget!! :)

If I run out I just use some of my liquid laundry detergent as a pre-treat.  I mean, isn't that kind of the same thing?  I just put a little of the detergent (full strength) on the spot and rub.  Seems to work well and sometimes I think I shuold just do that all the time instead of buying a pre-treat product.

Milk is great for soaking clothes that have a fresh ink stain.  Just pour some milk in a bowl, and soak the section of cloth that has ink on it. (The clothing should not be washed before soaking.) You will be able to watch the ink come out.  My mom told me about this when I was a child.

Perioxide works awesome on blood, even if it has been sitting for a bit, best to do as soon as possible though.

Not sure about this one. Wonder why it says may not want to use all the time. Is it bad for the clothes or just the smell?

...And peroxide won't bleach clothing? Sorry, I have so much left to learn in life and I'm not good with housekeeping, LOL. I peroxide bleaches my skin temporarily sometimes, so I'm amazed it won't do that to fabric. I'll have to buy a bottle!

I like the idea of peroxide and ammonia--and it's cheap! I'm going to try it! I'm afraid the smell of sour milk would make me sick!

I have heard that milk stains some fabric so would be skeptical about using it as a laundry pre-treater. A mixture of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 2 tbsp ammonia makes quick work of stains without danger of leaving any residue behind. I have used this solution on everything from table linens to kids' clothing and am always amazed at how readily it gets stains out. It is really inexpensive, too.
