Under-Eye Treatments!

Category: Home
If you've ever used concealer under your eyes, you know it doesn't help very much - it really just cakes up. There's generally a short list of things around your eyes that you'd like to hide: dark circles, wrinkles, and bags. Dark circles can be a symptom of allergies, as much as anything else. So a good place to start is by treating your allergies. Dark circles can also be reduced using caffiene topically (that is, applying caffiene directly to the skin around your eyes). There are several new products for this, but you can also try simple things like moist tea bags (apply like cucumber slices). Caffiene causes the capillary blood vessels to contract, thereby reducing the deep color most apparent under your eyes where the skin on your face is thinnest. When it comes to wrinkles, products to look for are night creams that use collagen, and these products can help reduce dark circles, too! Collagen soaks into the skin, to plump/firm it up - which helps because wrinkles are basically folds in loose skin. It also helps dark circles, by plumping out the otherwise thin skin under your eyes, reducing the visibility of color beneath the surface. Under-eye "bags" or puffy skin are generally a symptom of swelling. You may want to consult your doctor about the best way to reduce the cause. But an age-old treatment for reducing swelling around the eyes is cold cucumber slices. You may also see some improvement if you combine treating your allergies with a topical product using caffiene. But even if some of these treatment ideas help, you may want to consult a cosmetologist, too - there could be a better makeup or technique for you to try!

I have used Preparation H for dark circle for many years.  It works better than any eye cream to get rid of dark circles than anything I have ever tried.

darlin we southern belles know a lil secret that will shock you. Look at the ingredients on Preperation H and the ingredients on a random $100 dollar tube of eye cream. Buy a new tube and put it in a pretty lil pot and noones the wiser.

Thanks for the tips.  For those who want to use a concealer, I have found that a YELLOW based one works well to cover up dark areas.  Much better than a WHITE one which only gives you "owl eyes."  Use just a small amount and apply gently with your ring finger (the weakest finger).

Ever since being hit by a bad driver I've had one "wrinkle" under my right eye. It was the one that turned black and blue. How can I ever make the two match well? one looks over-done and the other looks plain. I'm just wanting them to look the same.

Very good info! Thanks! Will definitely try out the caffeine thing. Could use all the help I can get. Most of the creams are just too expensive.

I have the puffiness, but no wrinkles.  I do use an eye cream every day, but  will try the caffeine.  I also heard that preparation H does the trip too!  Thanks or the helpful tips.

Although I have heard or read all of these suggestions before, it is helpful to read them again.  All I need to do is eat some salted nuts, chips, pretzels, or drink a couple sodas and my under eye area is puffy the next morning.  Especially, if I haven't had at least a few glasses of water during the day. With Thanksgiving a few days away I know I'll be seeing this puffiness in the next few days.  Tea bags are on hand and if I don't eat all the cucumber slices I'll have these on hand, too.  Thank you for the timely advice.
