Hot Cereal not so Hot!

Category: Home
When making hot cereal for kids, use a little less water, and after cooking, add an ice cube. Stir the cereal to melt the ice and the cereal will be cool enough to eat right away!

The ice cube idea is a great idea! My Mom always added a little cold milk to cool our cereal.

We use plain oatmeal and a little less water, then stir in cold applesauce and some cinnamon. Instantly edible apple cinnamon oatmeal without the added sugar or artifical flavoring.

I remember adding a little milk when I was a kid, but that was in the day of no microwaves and everything was cooked on the stove ... so that cereal was too hot to eat immediately!

This is a great tip.  We use milk for our oatmeal and only add enough to get the oatmeal wet.  After we heat the oatmeal in the microwave for a minute we then add some cold milk to cool it down.  It brings it to the right consistency and cools at the same time.

I add a handful of frozen blueberries to my daughter's hot cereal.  It cools off quickly and she loves the addition of blueberries!  An added bonus....I don't add sugar to sweeten her cereal because the berries do that for me!!

I'm usually so smart about doing something like this but for some reason never thought about this one!  Great tip!  It seems so obvious that I'm mad at myself for not coming up with it myself!!!!

That is brilliant!  :)  Why didn't I think of that already?  LOL!  I agree that the milk would be even better.

I use milk too instead of water. add a little, heat up, mix, then add some cold milk to cool down and thin out. works great.

For my own kids when they were little I always added cold milk or cream to their cereal instead of ice.
