Dry Your Soap!

Category: Home
Open bars of hand soap as soon as you bring them home. Set them in a basket so they dry out. Drying the bars out prior to use makes them last a lot longer so you spend less! As a bonus, it is great for deodorizing a room!

I use these giant, half-pound bars of soap that I love and buy online that already last forever, but I'm going to try this.  I also stick the last sliver of the previous bar to the new bar so I don't waste any.

Liquid soap does have less bacteria involved, however I feel cleaner with bar soap. I do not share my bar soap with others due to germs, and use liquid at the sinks. There is germs and bacteria everywhere so why not use bar soap? Thanks this is a good tip that I never herd of before.

I love knowing someone else knew the soap trick!  My grandmother taught me that when I was a child. I now have 2 great-grandchildren of my own & still do the soap.  I truly does make your bathroom or any room you choose to put it in smell so good.  I actually let me soap dry over a year & it last so much longer.  You can actually put them in net & tie with ribbon & it is pretty as well as functional.

All this time I've been lead to believe that soap kills bacterial.  I found that liquid soap in the shower disappears  almost immediately while bar soap last much longer.  I do have liquid soap at the sink because of the mess.  I will try opening it up and drying it out.  Thanks for this one.

Neat idea!  If you're like me, you like to buy all kinds of decorative soaps for the different seasons and holidays.  At first, I used to put them away after the season or holiday in ziploc bags, but I quickly learned that they sort of "sweat," and you may get a little of the color from one of the soaps on one of the others.  It's best to put them in something that is not air tight.

Very interesting. I never realized that about the hardness of the soap. I have been using Dove bar soap for many years and may try soon. :o)

Another good idea is put your soap in your bureau drawers, everything has a wonderful fragrance. I've been doing this for years. Thank you once again for all the good hints!

I actually do this sometimes, but for the aroma.  I didn't realize that it made your soap last longer. I will have to pay attention to that. Thank you for the tip.

I haven't used bar soap in years.  too much bacteria builds up and germs transfer from person to person.  My doctor said to use liquid soap, a more convenient idea.

I always leave bar soap out, as a room deodorizer, but never knew it would make the bar last longer.

Are you familiar with the fact that bacteria can live for quiet a long time on plain old bar soap? I had my whole family switch to liquid soaps for hand washing and body washing because I heard from my friend who's a Doctor of Nutrition about using germy and dirty bar soaps. Here are a few supporting articles you can examine:"Because bar soap is left exposed to moisture, it is more likely to grow small amounts of bacteria. While the risk of getting a disease from the soap is quite remote, it is better not to share it with a large amount of people. Liquid soap, on the other hand, is pumped from the packaging so it is less likely to grow bacteria. However, if you use it with a washcloth, make sure you dry it properly, as it could harbour bacteria otherwise." http://beautifulwithbrains.com/2008/10/27/liquid-soap-vs-bar-soap/"Is there more bacteria present in liquid soap or bar soap? Bar soap would contain more bacterium as it is usually handled by more than one person. Liquid soap is not handled at all." http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_there_more_bacteria_present_in_liquid_soap_or_bar_soap

My dad used to save the soap slivers and put them in a pot with water and melt them down to make liquid soap for our dispensers. It worked quite well.

OK, I CONFESS I OPEN MY SOAP WHEN I GET IT  ,I HAVE ALWAYS SAVED THE SMALL PEICES OF SOAP IN A BASKET, WHEN I GET ENOUGH, I MELT IT AND MAKE A LARGE BAR OF SOAP, HAS LOTS OF SMELLS TO IT, MAKES A GOOD SMELL FOR THE BATHROOM, I NEVER HAVE TO SPRAY ANY THING IN MY BATHROOM , BECAUSE THE SOAP GIVES IT A FRESH SMELL,AND IT LAST LONGER THAN THE AIR FRESHENERS,SAVES MONEY TOO,

I've been doing this for years now.  It dries the soap out so that it lasts longer.  I usually let it "cure" for at least a month.  No more slimy soap it the shower!

I've been doing this for a while and it works great!  In stead of putting them in a basket, I cut off the ends of the boxes and put them away as normal until I need to use them.

Thankyou for the tip I'll be trying it out. Do we just let it dry until we use it or is there a specific time to let it dry?
