Far-from-Tasteless Turkey Burgers

Far-from-Tasteless Turkey Burgers

12 oz ground turkey breast
1/4 cup prepared pesto sauce
1 lg egg white
1/4 cup finely chopped Vidalia or other sweet onion
3 Tbsp Italian-style bread crumbs
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
8 whole-wheat slider rolls (1.3 oz each)
1 lg plum tomato, cut into 8 slices

Heat broiler or grill. Coat the rack with cooking spray and line the broiler pan (if using) with foil.

Combine turkey, pesto, egg white, onion, bread crumbs, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Mix gently without overworking. Form into 8 patties and set on the prepared rack.

Broil patties 4 minutes per side. Top each with 1 tablespoon of the cheese and broil 10 to 15 seconds longer, or until cheese melts.

Set 2 roll bottoms on each of 4 plates. Top each with a burger and a tomato slice. Top with remaining halves of the rolls.

The picture looks good! We have been eating more turkey foods, like turkey sausage and becon. It is a good healthy alternative.

We are switching to turkey more and more I can't wait to try this recipe. If it would quit raining I could try these on the barbecue.

i don't buy the turkey in a roll, it is smashed instead of ground.  i instead buy the turkey in the carton; it has the feel and texture of ground meat and seems to 'please' the mouth more.  it is also easier to put in soups for a meaty soup or chili.we tried the veggie burgers and my dog loves them, we don't.  this recipe sounds and looks good. we will certainly try it since our doctor insists we give up the cow for fowl.

I haven't made this recipe yet, but I have taken ground turkey and mixed it with a bit of jerk seasoning and some cilantro.  Grill it up -- yum!  The fam ate everything and then some!

I use ground turkey for alot of meals. You can find it pre-seasoned taco turkey meat at walmart and it tastes great and is cheap.

I've never tried using ground turkey in my recipes, but it seems like a much healthier (and possibly tastier) alternative to beef.  This recipe sounds delicious, especially since it includes one of my favorite things-pesto!

My husband adds, garlic, squeezed in a garlic press and then tomatoe sauce because ground turkey is somewhat tasteless. We perfer whole raw egg. The yolk is very healthy and contains vital ingrediants.Sharon

Turkey burgers are pretty good. It takes a while to get used to them but it is so much better for your health. Almost wish they had them in fast food places. This recipe looks awesome cant wait to try it.

I make something a bit similar, but I add minced sweet peppers in with the onions and sub BBQ sauce for the pesto.  Picky family likes it - especially when we grill it!
