Garlic No More

Category: Home
I never would have believed that it worked, but it is like magic. After cutting onions or garlic rub your hands with any large grained salt, like koshier or sea salt, with a little water. Rinse and repeat. Your hands will be totally free of any odor. This is an old Julia Child trick that my mother taught me.

I do the same as Jennifer, I wet my palms and rub them on the faucet. Works every time. BTW, they sell little steel bars  for this purpose at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It looks like a steel bar of soap.

I definitely agree with rubbing your hands inside the stainless sink... I do it every time I work with garlic and onions... definitely takes the scent away!

You can also rub your hands in the bottom of the sink while you are washing them to get the odor off, but it only works with a stainless steel sink.

I pour salt in my palm, add a little dish detergent, rub them together without water, then rinse under running water and bye bye onion smell.

actually grab any stainless steel utensil (spoon fork etc) & swipe over skin under water... H2O plus stainless steel creates a molicule that neutralizes any & all oders off of human & animal skin. A lot less waste of food product.

My mother taught us the 'stainless steel knife under cold running water' trick when we started learning to cook!  Thanks for the salt tip, too!

You can also touch stainless steel under cold water wherever the garlic or onion was on your hands to get rid of the scent.

Lemon also works. Spritz a bit of lemon juice on your hands or jub a halfed lemon over your hands. Lime works too.
