Wet Cell Phone?

Category: Home
If you get your cell phone slightly wet put in a ziplock bag of rice for 24 hrs and the rice will soak up the water. you won't have to go to the cell phone company and try and get a new battery.

I've heard of something similar. The tip I heard about is putting the phone in a pair of stockings/pantyhose then submerging that into the rice. The person that did this said it was like the phone never got wet.

If you immediately pop the back off & leave it off for 24 hours before you put it back together, it will work just like before.  I dropped mine & two years ago & it is still going strong!

I'll have to remember this great idea the next time my teenage nephew drops his phone into the lake. He just let his phone dry out on its own and it worked the same as before. We still haven't told his mother about this yet. We'll tell her when he is grown, out of the house and living on his own!

Remember to remove the battery as soon as possible after getting it wet and before putting it in the rice.

I have done this 2 or 3 times with different phones. One had wine spilled on it. Another was left out in a heavy downpour. I put them in a bowl of rice for a couple days and they turned out good as new!! The cell phone company's won't tell you about this trick as they want to sell you another phone!!

Just make sure to take the battery out/off first before putting it in the rice, and if your phone gets wet do not turn it on just to see take the battery out/off first then put in the rice for 24/48 hours it does work in most cases.

PCWorld Magazine the October 2009 issue (which you should probably be able to check out at your local library) talks about this in the article "Easy Fixes For The Most Common Problems".
It reiterates what Joy said (and that you can do this with your sim card!), but had you do a few additional steps, like taking off the battery, washing out the phone using an electronic circuit cleaner fluid and others.  They recommend letting it airdry for a couple of hours in a warm place before putting it in the rice and then keeping it there for a least a couple of days.  And before attempting to use it, to clean with canned compressed air.
I tried to find this article online so I could include a link right to it, but wasn't able to find it.

We are now being charged for our water usage. I have discovered that I can use my water that I boil veggies in to later water my plants! It is my understanding that the plants love the vitamins left over in the water...

Cool idea! My husband dropped his phone in an ocean inlet 2 times fishing. He finally got a waterproof phone! But anyways, one time when I ran with my phone in the rain, I just took the battery out and let it sit out for days and it eventually worked fine. This is a great tip though if it ever happens again!

Great tip! I'm so careful with my cell phone that it hardly gets wet, but when it does, I'll know what to do. Saves a lot of money from going out and buying a brand new phone.

Just remember not to turn it on once you have gotten it wet!! You will short the circuits and then you will have to get a new phone.
