Multi Softener Sheet Uses

Category: Around the House
This may sound silly, but whenever I take a load of laundry out of the dryer, I grab the fabric softener sheet and use it to clean the lint screen. It grabs all the lint in one clean shot!

Wendy, a great idea.  A really good tip for those who have asthma or COPD like myself.  It cuts down on the lint floating around in the air that would send us into a coughing spell.  Thank you!

I do that too; it makes cleaning up less messy, and all the while reducing the fire hazard of letting the lint  stay in the dryer.

OK - this may sound strange - but I have an old golf club in my broom closet - I use an old sock, that I dampen and put over the "head" of the golf club - then I go to town - cleaning moldings and those annoying floating dust strings that hang from the ceiling!!! - you can also clean the tops of ceiling fans!!!

I have a "recycled" Kleenex box thumb tacked to my wall above the dryer. All the used dryer sheets go in there. I buy "no-name" brands at the dollar store (40 sheets) to a box. After they are used in the dryer - I "re-use" them for many things as mentioned (hair wispies - duster - suitcase freshners) but being a crafter have found that they are wonderful for backing on quilting projects and also embroidery where they just "tear away" after stitching!!!

I think that would leave a coating on the screen that will repel lint rather than picking it up off your clothes and also makes the clothes take longer to dry if it gets build on it. I rinse my screen out to get that build up off on occasion and my clothes dry faster after I do that.

Used dryer sheets work great for cleaning the gunk that builds up in your washer at the water line.  So easy to clean with this!

It's not silly-I do it to!!  I also use it to wipe the tops of the washer and dryer.  It gets all the excess lint and dust.  I also only use half a sheet per load.  It makes them go farther, but still does the trick!

I agree with Heather and Jennifer. I, too, used to do this until I noticed the buildup on the screen; water wouldn't go through, and I couldn't scrub it off. I use a single paper towel to get my lint off; works great, lasts a long time (until it gets real soft and leaves its own lint behind!), and then I use it to wipe off the top of my dryer. Be careful with those sheets.Wink

The bounce dryer bar is not good for drying towels.  It affects the absorbency of your towels.  My Sears washing machine repair man told me to not use liquid fabric softener in the wash because it splashes up and messes up the spinners for the spin cycle.

when you swipe the dryer sheet to remove lint, you leave a residue that can start a fire.  You should scrub the lint trap often so water will run through.  I use a cheap scrubber.  If the water doesn't go through, it;s a fire hazzard.

I would be worried about clogging the lint catcher doing that, which I've heard, and read above, can be a fire hazzard. Instead, I use them for cleaning / dusting. And I put a fresh sheet in my shoes when I have to pack them in a suitcase.

I do that also, it really collects it all. I've also found it convenient to do when taking the clothes out of the dryer because it saves an extra trip to trash and from hunting down the sheet when you're folding the clothes. I've have also done as others have posted, used it to wipe done electronics. I found it leaves a nice shine on things.

I do that too, But don't forget to wash your lint filter with soap and water to keep it working at its best. Dryers have been known to overheat from a lint filter that is clogged, try this test when you take your lint filter out run it under water, the water doesn't flow through now wash it and watch the difference now the water wil flow trhough like its supposed to.

Washing your car... Do you ever get those bugs on the front end of your car and have a hard time getting them off? I use a dryer sheet to help remove. Water the vehicle down, and then use the wet sheet to wash that hard to get off debris. I have also used it to help remove the tar from the roads that end up on the car from my tires.... I never wash my car without a dryer sheet now... Thanks for all the wonderful tips.

Dryer sheets aren't 'green.'  A GREENER idea is put vinegar in the rinse cycle. The vinegar-y smell goes away when clothes are dry. Nothing left to clean the lint but your hand. I dampen my fingertips and get it all.

I thought everyone did this!  It is just the natural thing to do and it works great.  If the fabric softener sheet makes it to the area where I end up folding the clothes, I use it to dust the wooden furniture or the wooden floors in the bedroom.  How come it is always an odd sock that gets lost and never the fabric softener sheet?

The used dryer sheet to clean out the lint trap isn't the least bit silly-it gets it all in one swoop, uses up the sheet, and makes a great deal of sense! Those used sheets also work GREAT to swipe up the corner-dust bunnies and balls of cat hair that may congregate around baseboards and under dressers. Especially on tile or wood floors, it really attracts the fluff and helps you pick it up.

So many great ideas for dryer sheets (used or new).  Have used to clean TV & computer screens & cleaning out dryer lint catcher.  Use also place new sheets at bottom of garbage pail & then place bag over.  Really helps to keep the smell under control.  Have used in stieakers to remove that oder they get from sweating.Used sheets are also great for dusting.

Although I recently started using the Bounce Dryer Bar, and I do like it, the sheets are great for getting baked on foods off of baking dishes.  Just soak the dish in water with a piece of dryer sheet overnight, or for a few hours, and the baked on stuff cleans right off.

I also use the used dryer sheets to clean my lint trap. I also clean my lint trap every couple of months under warm water with a little drop of Dawn and a soft bristle brush.  It is amazing how the build up can affect the efficiency of your dryer.   After I wash and dry my sheets, I fold them and use one of the pillow cases to store them in.  I tuck a new dryer sheet in with them and they smell great the next time I use them.

I also use the dryer sheet tip...BUT... my dryer repair man said it was okay to do, but you MUST wash your lint trap a couple of times a year.  The fabic softner sheet will cause a build-up on the lint trap that can damage your dryer after time....

Exactly what I do, swipe the sheet through the lint trap and toss it into the small garbage can right next to the dryer. Other weird things I do with dryer sheets: when we're having a thunderstorm, I wipe each of my two dogs down with a sheet, then they don't freak out so much from the electricity in the air-no more running in circles and whining. Also, excellent for wiping down electronics from tv to computer and depending on the size of your bathroom floor, they work very well to pick up hair on floor, sink, toilet, you name it. It always use to gross me out to use my broom or vacuum on a bathroom floor, when you're done, put it in under the bag in your bathroom garbage to smell good! Maybe I'm a little too enthusiastic about dryer sheets but hey...LOL

I like to use my used dryer sheets to clean off any crayon my children have gotten on places it shouldn't be...walls, tables, drawers. They work great. A couple rubs and it's gone. (best on fairly smooth surfaces)

I love when things have more than one use!  This is an awesome forum to share ideas- some that I might not even think of....  I have never thought of using the dryer sheet as a lint grabber- Thank you for the tip.  I love how well dryer sheets clean the computer screen and freshen my husband's workout clothes drawer!!!!Laughing

I do the same thing, every time!  I figure that way I don't have to make such a mess getting the lint out, and it all goes to the same place anyway.  It just saves a step.

I keep all the used dryer sheets in an old purse in the laundry room.  The used sheets are great to grab pet hair around the house.  I also use them after a shower to loosen any soap scum on the doors. Amazing!

It' amazing how so many of us do this without "learning" it from someone else.  But if it is going to clog the holes in the filter, guess I better not do it anymore.  Good idea to use it to dust the dryer though.

and use a cloth or towel you are about to wash to wipe off the washer and dryer.  Dip in the water in the washer to wet.  Great way to keep appliances clean, takes no forethought and no time because you are there to fill the washer anyway.

I add the fabric softner in my suitcase when I travel as well as in some of my clothing drawers. I also read somewhere that if you have mice in the winter you can cover up a whole with the softner as they do not like the material.  Hey but who has mice right?

I'd echo Heather.  Once the residue builds up in the lint tray, it can be a real fire hazard.  I've tried running water through the tray to see if this was just some internet hoax, but sure enough, the water wouldn't drain through until I scrubbed it with a brush - and I couldn't even see the residue.  It was wild!  Be careful with this one!

One time my husband left a full pack of chewing gum in his pocket and I didn't notice it until the dryer had finished it's cycle.  There's really nothing that I know of to get the gum off the clothes, BUT, get a dryer sheet wet and wipe the gum out of the inside of your dryer.  It took quite a few but worked great!

I do, however, use dryer sheets to wipe off the dog & cat fur from the couches & chairs. I also put one in a new vacuum cleaner bag to freshen up the room & use one in each clothes drawer.

I used to do the same thing, thinking I was being slick, but as my hubby pointed out, the residue from the dryer sheet eventually clogs the holes of the lint filter. So now I try not to do that unless it's a sheet that's been used twice and no longer has any fragrance left.

I use the fabric softener sheet to wipe down the washer and dryer from any dust (lint dust) that may settle.  Helps prevent future buildup.
