Hairspray to the Rescue

Category: Around the House
If you get oil or grease on clothing and your not at home to clean it right away. You spray the area with hairspray until stiff and when you wash it will come right out.

Hairspray also takes the sting out of bee stings. I carry a small pump with me all summer. The sooner you get it on the better it works!

I also use dawn dish liquid and hair spray mixed with-helps to lubricate.

I will have to try this. What seems to work for me is, Dawn if available, but the next best thing is baby powder. Yes, it looks funny but if you put it on a fresh oil stain the powder will absorb the grease.

At home depot or the auto parts store they have moist towelettes individually wrapped for mechanics to clean thier hands with, because this is a grease remover and oil or petroleum based it will clean the spot from your blouse or clothing and you don't have to spray hair spray everywear. The towelettes will also clean anything else you spilt  on instead of having to wash off the hair spray too.  WD 40 removes that squeak in your door but it is also one of the best cleaners you'll ever use. Plus even plastic should be lubricated it keeps it from getting hard and cracking. Give it a shot you'll be not only thrilled with the results it will suprise the dickens out of ya!

LaughingI too have used Dawn dish soap on stains....and what works the BEST is the Dawn with Oxy. This may sound unbelieveable but try it yourself. I have used it on clothes that have had grease spots on them for awhile..the clothes had already been washed and dried before. All you have to do is rub some of the Dawn dishsoap with Oxy on the stain or stains and leave it for 24 hours...then wash and dry it.....in most cases the stain was gone. My husband would get splatter marks on his t-shirts (dark blue ones) from grilling or frying food and I would not notice it right away and go ahead and wash and dry it...then find the stain.....I could still just put the Dawn on it..let it set for 24 hours...wash and dry it....the stain would be GONE!!Try it.......I hope it works for you too!!!!!!!Sure does save on buying clothes because something you own has a stain on it that can't be removed.I will never use anything else ...and believe me..like some of you..I have tried a lot of the other stain removers....just a waste of money!!!

Forgot to ask about the ink, will it work if the shirt has already been washed? Although I guess if you figure its been ruined, what's a little hairspray going to do? Can't make it any worse...... lol

A few of you mentioned INK. My grandaughter somehow emptied an ink pen onto our beige carpet. Hairspray took that ink right out. A few sprays and a little rubbing was all it took. When we moved - we got all of our rent deposit back. No ink stains on the rug! LOL

This also works with hair color!  If you color your hair at home and splatter it on your clothes, spray the hairspray on it right away to help draw that color out in the wash.  It also helps if you get it on the walls.

you can also use dish liquid to get grease out of clothes. of course u may not have it if u arent at home...but im not one to carry hairspray with me either. if u are a mom with a diaper bag, u may have dish liquid in ur diaper bag to rinse out bottles with.

I found another great use for hairspray! Being severely spider phobic and confronted with a large one in the bathroom one day, I grabbed for the first thing that came to hand---a can of hairspray. I sprayed it on the spider which immobilized it and stuck it together so that all I needed to do was wipe it up with a paper towel. Great for bees and wasps that get too close too!! Donna

I've gotten pen ink out with hair spray. I've also used it to get ink off counters or desk tops and some plastic items, becareful though on some surfaces it could take the shine off.

Hairspray can also help get ink out of clothes/off of shoes--in this case it's the alcohol in it that does the trick
