Yum Yum, BBQ Chicken

Category: Food & Recipes
My kids love KFC's bbq chicken, we are on a very tight fixed budget, and can't eat out when the kids want... my son who is 12yrs old, and my daughter who is 9yrs old.. has asked me to try something new.. i'm sure you will enjoy this.. after you fry chicken, and it's completely done.. poor about 4TBLS of Sweet and Tangy BBQ sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.. take your fried chicken, and put it in the dish, poor more BBQ sauce to your likings over it.. bake on 350 deg. for about 20 min. it's delicious.. i do the same thing with pork chops, and it taste wonderful.. any BBQ sauce you choose will work great.. ( on the chicken, after i put the bbq sauce on it, i sprinkle a little bit of light brown sugar.)

Dorothy- I currently work at a very large chicken processing plant & they DO NOT kill their chickens like that! I have also worked for Tyson's & they don't either!  And yes, I do live in the United States!

you are right, it is very good.  But another suggestion works pretty well also.  I found it in a cookbook.  After you fry the chicken, place it in a bowl with a tight lid, pour the sauce over the chicken(best if wing portions are used)place the lid on tightly and shake the chicken in the sauce until all peices are evenly coated, let stand for about 5 minutes.  Remove lid and enjoy!

Instend of fried chicken bake it. Take a bowl and place your sauce in it.  After the chicken is done dip the chicken and let it sit on a baking sheet for 10 minutes. Now that is YUM-YUM.Pastor Tolson

For a different dish we take cheap flavored chips like bbq flavor, sour cream etc crush them up in the bag and throw pieces of chicken in till covered and bake in 350 oven till done. Kids love it and its easy quick. May not be healthy chip wise but good nonetheless occassionally.

SmileHi I have found myself cooking a lot at home for my family because money it tight. So what I do is I take one cup of apple cider vinegar  juice of one lemon, one third cup of worstershire sauce, two tablespoons of brown sugar, three tablespoons of real butter, and  salt to your taste put all of this in a boiler, let come to a boil turn the eye down on medium stir often and let it simmer until it gets thick and pour it over chicken, one fryer put it in oven on 350 for forty five minutes or until the juices runs clear and you will have the best tasting bbq chicken.  Enjoy Elizabeth

Kids don't need that much fat and sugar in their diets. Try breading and baking the chicken. Cut it into fingers or chunks if that is how the kids like it. Serve the chicken with a side of BBQ sauce to dip them in. Another thought. It was in the news that they were going to start importing chinese chickens. I would worry about eating them. TYSON is what KFC uses and while the meat may taste good....the chickens are tortured. Some thrown into a vat of boiling water alive. When they shackle the birds they are supposed to be shackled by their feet but sometimes they are shackled by the neck. Instead of their head being chopped off, their feet are cut off. The chicken hits the boiling water alive and suffers terribly. KFC refuses to make Tyson use a different method. Nitrogen is added to the air and the chickens faint.
Then they can be killed humanely. KFC is the biggest customer that TYSON has so if they made a stink I am sure that things would change. KFC in America won't do it but KFC in Canada has. I am not a fanatic. I try to stay with free range chickens like those produced by Murray. They taste like chicken should taste like and they are leaner with more white meat on the breast. Yes it does cost more but I am the only one in my house hold so occasionally I indulge. I do not belong to PETA but if you go to PETA.com you can see for yourselves. Just don't let the children watch or they will turn on you and demand to become vegetarians. That would make life complicated for everyone!!! Laughing

This sounds really yummy.  I'll definitely try it.  You seem to like your bbq sauce like I like it, sweet, tangy, and maybe a little extra sweet.  And, for those who prefer a healthier version, go for it, but I don't believe this meal idea will hurt after having it one time.  The first time I cook a recipe, I follow the instructions, just to see how it tastes and turns out, then I see how I can change it up, and sometimes for a healthier alternative.  Thanks Cynthia.

Please do not give your children any type of fried chicken . You can bake it on a flat cookie sheet and keep pouring off the fat as the chicken bakes down then you can add the sauses without all the chicken fat and your children's arteries will be nice and clean with no cholesterol and fat added to their diet.

We make BBQ chicken fingers by dipping the raw chicken in bbq sauce (like one would do an egg wash) then coat them in bread crumbs (crushed up crackers or cereal would work). Bake, cool, eat and enjoy!

Another healthier alternative-instead of frying, take wings or legs and par-boil for 10-minutes, put in a baking dish and cover in sauce at 375. Make sure you have plenty of time, the longer the better to cook in the sauce. Add additional sauce at least once. Bake around 45 minutes, the wings and legs will not dry out or get too done.

So we fry it first and then slather it in empty calories? I can think of so many ways to make this healthier.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO   UNHEALTHY.  Bake the chicken or oven fry with cornflakes for a healthier version.

This sounds really good.  It sounds pretty much like KFC does their boneless wings and other BBQ offerings.  I'm trying this next week!  Thanks for the suggestion.
