I asked both a dentist and a hygenist about how abrasive baking soda might be if used very often on the teeth. Both assured me that baking soda is not even an abrasive as it dissolves too quickly to do any damage.

I not only use a combination of baking soda & epsom salts in my bath water (great skin softener) but I also use baking soda to clean my oven. That's all it takes: baking soda, water & a scrubby sponge. It will take several rinsings but no more horrible fumes or awful smell when you heat your oven up again The best part is that it is non-abrasive and leaves the oven looking like new.

I recently read about cleaning your washing machine using baking soda and hot water and running the machine to clean out the grime that collects from dirty clothes.  Sounds like a good plan to me.  I also use baking soda and vinegar to clean my diswasher 2-3 times a year.

i told my dentist about the use of my baking soda and he about had a heart attack. he scorned me enough to scare me not to use it again, he says it strips the enamel off of your teeth when you use it straight from the box

You know, my doctor told me if you have a yeast infection not to wash with soap but to use 3 tablespoons baking soda in the tub. This helps get your PH balance back where it should be.

I have always used it for skin irritations for my son. He is special needs and still not diaper trained at 14! So, lots of rashes in my life over the years. LOL. I also use it for cleaning kitchen pots that have heavy baked on deposits. It helps my eczema as well. I use it in the laundry to cut down on the amount of detergent that I need to add. I use it for lots of stuff. I thought that I was the only one who did this!

I was reading this tips last night and thought "wow, diaper rash?!" but my 16 month old didn't have a rash that I knew of. Well this morning I change her diaper and she is red and irritated all over!! She's in the bath right now and I sprinkled some baking soda in (maybe a few table spoons worth?) so we will see how it works!

I put a scoop of Baking soda in a zip lock bag and pour a little bit of hot water and then a splash of vinager  and tie it to my shower head and leave it over night and it gets out all the mildew. The mildew is  toxic to breath with the steam of the shower so I try to do this montly.

If I had only one multi purpose product to choose it would be baking soda.  It's great for almost everything... brushing your teeth, washing your face, washing your clothes, counter tops, stove tops, bee stings, spote remover(mixed w/ toothpaste), will even remove red wine from granite!!!

Wow these are some really great ideas.  I already use Baking Soda on my my carpet.  Just sprinkle it on, let it sit for a bit and vacuum it up.  Nice and fresh.  I also agree it is great for stainless steel.  I use it for EVERYTHING!

For instant teeth whitening, I put some baking soda on your tooth brush. It works pretty good. I also pour a cup of baking soda whenever I do laundry, it makes the clothes feel fresh!

I love using baking soda to clean my stainless steel sink. And my son has horrible diaper rash and it helps so much putting it in the bath water! If you have a white porcelain sink that gets scraped up. Just make a paste with a little water and baking soda and rub it all over and into the scrapes. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse with hot water. No more scratches! It works great!

I have 5 cats and no one has ever smelled any odors from my home because of baking soda! When you clean your litter just put in about a quarter cup, which is really nothing, to each pan, and mix it around. It absorbs odors and your litter will last at least 5 times longer.!!!   Thats what litter makers use, because they know it works. However, I do not use clumping litter, because it kills animals when they clean themselves and the litter that CLUMPS in their pan CLUMPS in their stomachs.

Heard a model on television say that gently washing your face every other day or so with baking soda is a great exfoliant, and works every bit as well as the expensive exfoliants one can buy in drugstores and department stores.  I tried it, and I was amazed!  Only takes a small amount!  Be sure gently use your fingertips and not scrub too hard, (as with any exfoliant).  Baking soda is PH balanced/ will leave your skin feeling very clean, soft and smooth!

I also use baking soda in the laundry. My husband and I are chicken farmers and putting it in with a load gets rid of the smell. It's also good for getting rid of deodorant build-up under your arms while taking a bath. Like many of the other posters I use it to brush my teeth once a week.

An earlier poster mentioned mixing it with cleanser for a gentle facial scrub. I love to do this and it's a great way to use up cleansers that I'm not really crazy about instead of tossing it. It can also be used on the body or feet. Donnaj

I clean houses for a living and have started to use baking soda for all sorts of tasks.  I've been using non toxic products for years and now have added this to my list.  I use it for scrubbing shower doors, tubs, sinks,grout(whitens teeth remember!),faucets too.  The thing I have sharing the most w/clients and friends is using it on stainless steel appliances.  I have tried it all and this is the easiest, cheapest way to do it.  It sounds scary but works AWESOME!!  What I do is..wet the sink, toss some b.soda in it, make a watery paste in the sink w/any rag.  Then I rub down the appliance,rinse rag and appliance and then dry w/soft rag in direction of the s.steel.  Best thing ever.  Try it today and you'll agree w/me.

I ended up with melted blue crayon all over a load of kahki colored clothes. After trying Shout and Spray N Wash multiple times, I used a half of a box of baking soda in the hotest water I could wash the clothes in. I was so amazed that it came out of all of them. They had a funky texture, but that washed out in the next wash.

 I use it in many of the ways mentioned, but to clean your drains on a weelky basis, pour 1/2 - 3/4 cups into a dry drain making sure you get it down. let it stay for 15-20 minutes then pour 1/2 cup white vinegar down the drain. you will see lots of foaming. once the foam dies  down simply run the hot water for a minute or two. AMAZING RESULTS EVERY TIME! ANOTHER PLUS, IT'S NON-TOXIC!

Works as a great skin exfoliate. Put a little with your facial cleanser and instant softer skin. Add to shampoo to take residue off of hair from styling products too!

I knew baking soda had a lot of uses but never heard of it in a babies bath for bottoms. My 18 mo grand son gets a red bottom a lot.  I will have to try this the next time he visits and he little bottom is red. On another note I found that baking soda will help remove burned or stuck on foods from your pans. Just put some in the pan a rub with a paper towel or a rag. Then just wash as normal. The extra baking soda in thr wash water will also help cut the soap and grease from your kitchen sinks. I buy baking soda in the biggest bag I can find for I use it all the time.

some friends of mine use baking soda and vinegar to wash their hair. they use those little condiment bottles you can get at walmart and mix a few tablespoons with water. it is so much healthier on your hair, and if you can gat past the first week of the transition stage where your body adjusts to how much oil it needs to produce your hair will be much shinier and softer too.
