Parchment Paper to the Rescue

Category: Food & Recipes
Line baking dishes with parchment paper before adding food, especially when baking gooey foods like macaroni and cheese or lasagne. The parchment paper won't burn, doesn't add any flavor to your food, and makes cleanup a breeze!

Wow! Parchment paper, where have you been all my life? I'll definitely be trying this along with the other tips posted in this discussion (thanks for the cake tip, Barbara)!

Thanks for the tip, Joy.  I use parchment paper for baking cookies but never thought to use it for other baking projects.  I make a pizza casserole that my family loves.  It will work great to line the pan.  Thanks again and have a glorious day!

that is a great idea.  I don't think to buy the parchment paper when I do my shopping.  I think it would be less mess to clean up.By Doris on 10/18/09 6:30pm

I feel better about using parchment instead of foil for the sake of the environment.  I can burn my paper, so that it an added benefit too.

love parchment paper for baking cookies to cakes.

I do this all the time! It's the greatest cheat for a quick after dinner clean up! I even use it when I bake frozen foods like Gortons fish fillets, or french fries baked in the oven. I recently started to use parchment when I make chicken parmagiana.....no more gooey cheese to try to scape off the pan!

Parchment paper is like wax paper. its found with tin foil. I love using it as well because it makes cleaning pans SO much easier.

I've been using parchment paper for a few years now.  It's great for baking fish--the skin sticks to the paper and you can just toss it away .

I've seen questions about parchment paper... I would like to chime in a minute... from my experience, it's the BOMB!!! Especially with Christmas baking! Time saver for sure! You can't compare with alum. foil... foil tares, and isnt' non-stick.... besides, you can wash and re-use parchment paper if you're worried about cost. Also, wax paper gets on your food. YUCK! Parchment paper can run an average of $5 per roll, but give it a try, and you're likely to agree... it's worth it.

I am certainly going to try it when baking breakfast (Amish Friendship) bread, sometimes the bottom gets a little too brown.

I love parchment paper. It used to be hard to find, but now even the grocery stores are carrying it. I have found, when baking cookies, I can use the same piece of parchment paper several times, saving money and clean-up time.  When baking cakes that I need to take out of the pans for frosting, I trace the bottom of the pan first on the parchment paper, then cut out the shape. It fits perfectly inside the pan and peels off nicely after the cake is removed. No more cakes stuck to the bottom of the pan. I save the scraps ends of the parchment paper for when I need to use shortening or butter on the pans - keeps my fingers from getting greasy!Laughing

I use parchment paper all the time.  I've even used it when I want to freeze hamburger patties, they don't stick together like wax paper or foil does when you freeze things.  Great for cookie baking too!
