If you are trying to lose weight, Try this, Prepare your meals a week in advance. Freeze them. Package them in one serving portions. Then when you're hungry you don't reach for the box of crackers or the potato chips. Because it's easier and quicker, you reach for a quick easy to fix healthy snack or meal that's ready for you. And for snacks, put together little 1/4 cup servings of nuts and berries etc. in sandwich bags. Also, good to take with you in the purse or pocket for when you need a snack in between meals.

Another tip for trying to lose weight..try setting up meal times differently than what we areused to. Have a healthy filling breakfast (most important meal of the day), have a healthy dinner at lunch time, and then when you would usually sit down at night for a hearty supper have a smaller lunch type meal. This way your body can digest your larger meal through the day and you get the maximum energy from your foods. Your body has a harder time digesting food after 5pm when you typically slow down.

I do this too. I also preportion snacks into those snack sized Ziplocs, writing the calore amount on the bag so that I'm aware of the damage before I eat. Portion control is definitely my big road block in getting to my goal weight and these things help a lot.

We pre-measure all snacks as soon as the groceries get home.  Then, I only eat the proper serving side.  I have also switched from ground beef for tacos and spaghetti to ground turkey breast.  No one noticed.  Switched to Skinny Cow ice creams (they are yummy, BTW).  Lots more ideas in my head, but here are a few.

replace oils in baked goods with applesauce and use splenda for half of the sugar required in a recipe adding a half cup of dried milk powder and a tsp of baking soda for every cup of splenda you use. You can have sweets in moderation and every calorie cut helps. Hope these tips help!

There are a few items (chips and M&Ms are on the list) that I know no matter what, I'm not able to resist. If the kids want to get a treat @ the store I purposely let them chose something else because I know i will overdo it if they're in the house.

I cut portions in half and add fiber (pumpkin puree, bran flakes, vegetables etc) to meals to bring the meal back to its original size. My favorite breakfast is 1/2 stop&shop bagel with 1 tbsp butter spread, 1 cup of fruit, 1 egg beater, and a cup of coffee with 2 tablespoons of fat free creamer :) Inbetween meals I use fat free sour cream mixed with a ranch dip packet to complement my peppers, carrots, or cucumber.

The best thing to if you can do this, is try not to buy the chips, etc.  If it is not readily available, you can't eat it.

Baked tortilla chips with lime and carrs table water crackers with lauging cow cheese are excellent snacks! especcially because the cheese is pre measured. Baby bell is another great little afternoon pick me up too!

I heard that you should eat you dinner off a salad plate instead of a dinner plate because it holds less so you'll eat less.

these are all great ideas ... i have a really hard time dealing with impulse control with snacking.  i'll grab one chip, then another and another ... but if i had them in small bags i'd feel satisfied with the small portion and likely not want to go back for more!  and preparing meals is such a great idea!  i have a deep freezer just waiting for me to crock pot away and freeze it in single serving portions!  thanks for the tips!

I already do this with peanuts with sea salt and graham crackers with pb on them. It is great to have on the go as somethings taking longer to get accomplished than you thought and they have good protein in them.

I aggree that taking the time ahead to prepare healthy meals will save you from grabbing "junk". If you still want your sweet tooth fix or cracker fix, try putting proportioned sized servings in small bags so you don't grab the whole box. Sometimes its better to eat what we want in moderation. Try using a smaller dinner plate that way your whole plate is full, but you are still eating less.

The most effective way to loose weight is cutting everything in half. Example......eat only half a sandwich. When you fix your dinner plate, eat only half. You will loose weight and keep it off. You do not want to loose weigt quickly because that is a temporary fix. You will lose weight slower but it will stay off for good!
