Share Your Pearls of Wisdom with the Vocalpoint

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

We’ve all had people who’ve inspired us with their life experiences or advice. Honor them by sharing their story and their wisdom with the Vocalpoint community.

Hi Vocalpoint moms! This is Kim. While we’re looking forward to hearing the wisdom you have to share with us, I wanted to let you know that we have some wisdom to share with you as well. This message board was inspired by a book our friend, Roger Fishman, wrote called ‘What I Know.’ By meeting with 100 year olds and 10 year olds across the country, Roger compiled an enlightening and refreshing collection of wisdom from both ends of the life spectrum. To hear more about Roger’s story, click here. If you’d like to go out and record wisdom that you can share with others, here is some helpful advice.

Many of these consumers have received samples or coupons from Vocalpoint. Vocalpoint does not represent or warrant the truthfulness, accuracy or reliability of any information or content appearing on the board, nor does P&G endorse any opinions expressed by or affiliated with any users on this board.

Even though my Uncle Jim has Cerebral Palsy and has (successfully) battled lung cancer, he has led a very rich and full life.  He has a master’s degree, recently retired from 30+ years working for the state of Georgia, and has traveled all over the world.  All of this from a person whose parents were urged to put him in an institution for his entire life.  When I asked him how he overcame all of his obstacles, he simply said “I just never listened to people who said ‘you can’t do this or you shouldn’t try that.’  If I did, I’d never even leave the house.”

My mom always had this saying ‘go slow to go fast.’  Being an impatient little girl, I never took the time to figure out what she meant by that.  In a way, my impatience was an asset – I graduated early from college and never settled for a job until I got what I wanted.  On the other hand, it seemed like I was always doing things twice – first quickly to get it done, then more carefully a second time to correct all of my mistakes.  Finally it clicked, if I slowed down and did things right the first time, I wouldn’t have to take the time to do it all over again.  ‘Go slow to go fast’ – words that I live by.

My mother always had two sayings of advice...."count your blessings" and "this too shall pass".  It sure helps me to remember those words throughout my life.

one of my words of wisdom comes from my favorite book the Bible. i can do all things in christ who strengthens me. he gives us strength each day to deal with circumsatnces and situations that come in our daily lives. we must keep him first in our lives.and if and when we ask God for wisdom"Godly wisdom " believeing he will give it  to us.

God shows grace and mercy to those he loves and hes the reason im still alive today. i consider myself a living testimony.i give God all the praise because we can do nothing without him.and to know your uncle had the mentality to fight and not give up is awesome what a testimony he has.God is GOOD!

I believe in keeping things simple and giving to those in need. We all have something we can give if it is just time. It is a shame that people have so much and give so little. You can look no farther than your own street to see someone in need. Clean out your closets and give to a charity. Take food to an elderly shut in. Give food to those who do not have the income to eat right. Pass on clothes that are still in good condition to families with alot of children and not alot of money. Feed a stray animal if you cannot find a home for it. It is in our hands. Sandra from Texas

We'll there is someone in my life whom inspires me everyday, that person is my husband. He works at the Railroad, which is a very dangerous and hard job. But he comes home everyday around the same time, and if he is a little late, then I know he's just stuck in traffic. But as soon as he comes home if I'm still in bed, the reason for that is because I have a severe case of osteoarthritis, and I suppose that the medications that I take for the pain sometimes makes me sleep too long. But he comes in and if I'm not up he will turn on my coffee which he made the night before, and when it's done, he brings me a cup and wakes me up with a kiss. I also have arthritis in my eyes, so my driving is limited. So, he also goes and picks up my prescriptions at the doctor's office because the scripts have to be picked up because they are so strong that they can't phone them in. So, everytime they are due, he goes out of his way to go and pick up the scripts at the Doctor's office, and then he goes straight to the drugstore and waits until there ready. He is just wonderful to me, and he also is in pain, he has a dislocated shoulder cuff, but you wouldn't know it, bcause he never complains. He goes to work at 7 AM and doesn't get home until 3:30 PM. So, he works long hours, and if I'm not feeling at my best, he makes dinner, even though he is so tired, and you never hear him complain about anything. I just don't know what I would do without him, he is my "Best Friend" and "Soulmate". We have been married it will be 31 years in October. We have had our trial and tribulations, but God I do believe has kept us together through many things. On his days off, which he get (2) two days off in a row, he mows the front and back yard, which are fairly large yards, and then he will weed eat. He doesn't do the job half way, he does it so that it looks nice because we live in a nice neighborhood. He is from Kentucky, and I suppose that's why he is such a hard worker. He is just wonderful, and very caring. He takes good care of me, and whatever I want he supplies me with it. Even if it means going out of his way.I don't ask him for much, I'm not what you would call a high maintenance woman. I don't need diamonds and jewelry to make me happy, but if I want say a necklace from Walmart, he will purchase it for me, no questions ask. I don't shop at the expensive stores, Walmart fits me just fine. He even does the grocery shopping, and never complains. I just love him so much, and I hope God gives us many more years together, I pray. But that is my story, my husband is my hero, and I just thank God everyday that he gave him to me. God has been good to us. But right now we are being faced with the possibility of losing our home. It could go into Forclosure anytime, but I pray that it doesn't, because my husband has worked so hard to make this our home, and found us a safe place in which to live, and I just pray that God  see's fit to let us stay here for years to come. Yes, we have many bills in which we are behind on them, but I know that God will help us, in what way, I don't know. But my husband works very hard and I would hate to lose our home because we have put so much into our home and I stay by myself alot, and I just feel very safe here. So, if there is someone out there who reads this, would you just pray for us that we don't lose our home, we've only lived here for (5) five years, and this is where I want to stay until my dying day. God is good to all of us. He is a forgiving God, and I just know with the prayers of others and I pray everynight, unless I fall asleep very quickly, which sometimes does happen, I know that God is going to help us to keep our home, Ihave the faith inGod and my husband. In closing if you have someone that you have been with for many years or even 2 years, don't give up on your man, because I have the greatest man in the world, and I wouldn't take nothing for him. I thank God that he gave him to me, Amen! cindygail43@comcast.net  9-15-2009   May God Bless Every Couple Married or not to love each other unconditional, Just remember when you took your vows, Marriage is for better or worse, and life sometimes throws you a curve ball, but just learn how to get along, and be good to each other. Thank you for whomever reads this. I did forget one thing, my husband helped bring us (3) three beautiful children into this world with the help of God, and now that they've all grown up, my baby just turned 18, and my husband is a wonderful Father and my children, I'm very proud of. My daughter she gave me (3) three beautiful Grandchildren, whom I adore, and I thank God for them everyday.Children are as precious as my husband, my best friend, my soulmate, and I Love Him Dearly.

Hello Everyone! Times have been tough, especially in the GROCERY DEPARTMENT. I have found a way to save money, though. I went through my pantry oneday and wrote down ALL of products that we dearly love to buy (& do not want to sacrifice buying the off-brand version.) Beside the names, I wrote down the toll-free numbers. I call them once a month and get LOADS of coupons! If they tell you that they don't have a coupon mailing list, ask for a ONE-TIME mailing of coupons. And then you call back the next month....same thing! I usually spend about 8 hours a month calling, but I am a stay at home mom so not a problem for me. Try it! Some places will even send you coupons for FREE products just because you love them so much!

My father was a Methodist Minister, and was a huge inspiration to not only me but also to many other people whose life he touched.  He was so inspiring because he had an endless amount of love to share.  He always told me To try and not pass judgment on people because part of what makes life so interesting is the fact everyone is different.  If everyone was the same life would be boring.  That doesn't seem very profound, but if you sit and think about everyone you know (good or bad) and the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of them, it really is the definition of life and what makes the world go round.  I believe it is important for us to always support a child when they are defining who they are.  It is so easy for parents to fall into the trap of trying to make their child what they wanted to be or what they think is ideal.  It is so important for all of us to succeed in life to feel like who we are is great because we are confident that we have our individualism.

My mom always told me that if I concentrate on what I do not have then I will never fully appreciate what I do have. I have always loved that wisdom she gave me as all my life I have never been envious of what others have but instead am grateful for everything I do have.

My tip is just a quick short one to help all the women who carry purses to the grocery store.... Wrap the child restraint seat belt around your purse handles to buckle it in and the bad guy WON'T be able to grab and dash away with your purse!!!!!  Such a simple trick but it has saved me many times! That way I can look away for a second or two and NOT have to worry about it !!!!

This is so true and always, always, always worth repeating. I can't tell you how many purses I see in the grocery carts unattended.  The owner could be half way down the aisle....and there sits the purse, and many of them are wide open.  Sometimes I want to take the purse, turn it in to the Manager, and let them be called on the loud speakers to retrieve their purse.  That might/maybe make them more aware.

When my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimers she was getting more and more forgetful and soon she would not speak at all. My son and I would go there every Friday to have lunch with her and my Grandfather. When my son turned 1 we had them both over for Easter dinner and my grandmother and my son held hands at the table and had a full conversation no one else understood, but they were very intense and deep in conversation. They were speaking to each other. I think I learned patience and that even though you may feel lost, there is always someone who will understand you.

I work w/ the public.  There are alot of people and one stood out yesterday as I reflected on my shift.  He started a conversation simply by asking if I were born in Oregon.  Then he tells me about his life,  It was interesting.  He was born in Canada, has lived in New York, LA , ...neat stuff like that just by opening up and shareing.

Always remember that a smile can change, perhaps save, someone's life. One day while my daughterand I were shopping, there was a lady checking out in front of us. When it was time to pay for her items, she pulled out a bunch of change, dropping alot of it on the floor. I picked it up, handed it to her and she was short by .25. I fished around, found a quarter in my purse and gave it to the cashier. The lady had tears in her eyes, she was so grateful. We got done checking out and the woman was parked by my car. I smiled and told her to have a nice day, daughter blew her a kiss, and said don't be sad. She blew kisses to everyone at that age LOLThe lady then told me that I changed her mind about what she was going to do.
She was going to drop off the groceries, then take her life. Just like that *poof*. She said how it touched her heart what I did in the store, then especially my daughter smiling and blowing kisses. So, whenever I am out, I always make it a point to smile at people. I may have it tough, but others have it tougher.
My Grandma always said, "remember, we are all fighting our own battles". So, if someone seems rude to you, grouchy, smile- it may change their life...and will make you feel great!

What I know...Nothing is more important than the love of friends and family.  And if you are far away from family, or don't have any, you can "make" a family where you are!  I live away from all of my family and seldom get to spend holidays with them.  But my best friend and her family are  my family too.  For over 25 years I have spent every Christmas Eve with them, and it has often been the high point of my holiday.  I have been through 2 divorces and the death of both parents in the past ten years, but the one steady constant in my life has been my "other" family and their constant, uplifting love!
