Van Full of Cans for the Holidays

Van Full of Cans for the Holidays

Van Full of Cans continues rolling into the holiday season. We only have 4,000 “likes” left on Vocalpoint’s Facebook page until our next delivery for 700+ cans! Especially around the holiday season, we encourage you to tell your friends and family about our effort to give back in the hopes that they’ll join us on Facebook. It’s not just that they’ll help give back—they’ll also find out firsthand what makes the Vocalpoint community so great!

Meanwhile, if you’re interested in helping give back on your own time, there are plenty of simple ways to do so.

Likely you have friends or family in town for the holidays, or at least the kids home from school. Looking for something to do? Use one of the resources here to find out where you and your family can spend just an hour or two of your time volunteering at a soup kitchen, helping tidy up a shelter, or something else simple. You don’t need to give things when you can give the valuable gift of your own time!

You could also try websites that require only seconds of your time to make a difference. For example, at websites like FreeRice.com, you can choose from a variety of quick, one-click word games, and with every click, you see how much rice you’re donating. At Care2.com, one absolutely free click can help a variety of causes. TheHungerSite.org has a similar one-click-to-donate format. Spending just 1 minute every day on these sites can make a huge impact!

After the holidays are another great time to consider donating your stuff, especially if a relative or friend gifted you something you can’t use or don’t care for. Donate it! To get an idea of what shelters can use what materials, click here, or for other ideas for giving back around your community during the holiday, click here.

Together, we can make a huge difference. Keep giving back in your mind this holiday season, and we’ll keep it in ours as we strive to reach our next goal with Van Full of Cans!

I do the Free Rice word games.  It keeps my mind sharp, and it helps the hungry.  Win win situation.  I also click everyday for such good causes as animal rescue, breast cancer, and more.  So simple and quick, yet it helps others.

I think the Van Full of Cans project is amazing. Thanks for the other links that give free donations. I will have to check them out. I use bookmark folders on my laptop that makes the websited I visit regularly easier to access and remember. For instance, I have a daily entry folder for contest that I enter. I'm going to create a "Free Donations" bookmark now. Also, right now ebay is doing one on their facebook page where you can design a toy (very simple process) and they will donate $1 to toys for tots. You can do it as many times as you want a day, no limit. They will donate up to a total of $50,000.

Vans Full of Cans is a wonderful Idea and way to help. Posting ways all of us can help and maybe Ways we can open or run a helpful Place like clothes closet or food pantry. I find it amazing that stores donate things like Food to organizations and like to Spend money in those stores.

I work as a nurse on a labor and delivery floor at Sturdy Memorial hospital in attleboro, MA. We have containers where patients and visitors can put their empty soda cans and bottles. This year , we raised $365 by taking them to a redemption center. We are going to give the money to a local food pantry and other course, we kept those cans from going into the trash. 2 benefits for the price of one.

I buy at least 1 extra can of food each week. Usually more. I look in the discounted section and save evn more. It is so little each week that I do not even miss it. I donate these to various Food Banks. Thanks

I like to get my kids involved.  We packed meals with Food for Hungry and also bought angel gifts for less fortuante kids in the same grade that my kids are in.

I think this is sooooo Great!! My husband and I donate to the less fortunate all through the year, But we try to do as much as possible around the Holidays. We feel this is the true meaning of Christmas. Loving and helping the less fortunate, and those in need. Jesus has blessed us in so many ways, and we are so very greatful we think it is only right to pass along his blessings in any way we can.

My husband and I walk every morning and pick up the change we find, keep it in a jar and at the end of each year around Christmas we give the money (which is usually around $40-$50) to a person in need or an organization in our small town.  This year the money went to a historical society that is trying to preserve an older home here in town. Probably enough money for a gallon of paint.  They were so appreciative!  Last year it went to a family who was having a hard time.  A little can mean a whole to so many!

My husband and I donate year round.  Christmas time we add a "Santa Child" to our list of gifts.  I don't do TOYS FOR TOTS  as I think if they need anything it should be warm clothing.  So we always do a jacket for one organization and sox, sweat pants/shirts for another.

This is a great idea.  No matter how big or small...everyone has something to give to help others.  The feeling you have afterwards can't be matched.  I never regret helping someone else in need.

What a great idea to help those in need.  I'll definitely be donating around the holidays as well as all next year.

What a great idea, Robin! I too buy discounted foods (especially with coupons) often, so I think I need to add your technique to my to do list.
