P&G’s October brandSAVER issues will hit the shelves on October 2nd and 16th, and every single coupon you redeem will automatically give 2¢ to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF)! But what is the NBCF, anyway? What do they do? What’s their story, and what will that 2¢ support?
It all started with just one woman: Janelle Hail. Janelle was 34 years old in 1980, when her early detection of breast cancer led to a mastectomy that saved her life. Her survival ignited a passion to devote her life to the cause of educating women about early detection and enabling women in need to get mammograms. In 1991, she founded NBCF, which has since grown to one of the most respected cancer foundations in the nation.
Today, Janelle serves as not only the founder of the NBCF, but as a founding board member of World Innovative Networking (WIN), an organization with a mission based on integrating research discoveries into practice and improving clinical outcome of patients.
The NBCF takes part in several campaigns to raise awareness and generate hope for their cause, including GIVE Hope with P&G, and corporate program called Casual Up. Casual Up is a campaign that encourages corporate companies to offer their employees a casual-dress day that also raises awareness and takes donations for breast cancer treatment and research.
If you visit the NBCF’s website, you’ll find that it isn’t just a place for gathering information—it’s also a huge support system for women diagnosed with breast cancer. They can reach out to each other or professional support through the interactive message boards, sharing their stories and holding discussions. “Remember,” says a quote on the website, “we all stumble, every one of us. That’s why it’s a comfort to go hand in hand.”
That’s just the beginning. The NBCF is an amazing resource for both preventing cancer and supporting its victims, and every single brandSAVER coupon you redeem from the October 2 and 16 issues will support their mission. You’ll help the NBCF spread the word about early detection programs and contribute to offering mammograms for women in need.
