Your Own BBQ Magic

Your Own BBQ Magic

2 tsp olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup tomato puree
2 Tbsp + 1 tsp cider vinegar
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp molasses or brown sugar
1 Tbsp + 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 1/2 tsp mustard powder
3/4 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp liquid smoke*

Heat oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft, about 3 minutes.

Add tomato puree, vinegar, honey, molasses, Worcestershire, mustard powder, salt, pepper, and liquid smoke. Stir and cover. Simmer on low heat 20 minutes.

Uncover and simmer an additional 10 minutes, or until thick. Refrigerate until ready to use.

*By the way…
Liquid smoke helps make your food taste like it was cooked over a wood fire; you can usually find it near Worcestershire sauce in the grocery store.

I wonder if you could process this in small jars (like the one shown), and seal them and keep them unrefrigerated?  Then you could give them as gifts!  Anyone out there have the know-how to do this?

This receipe seems to be one that is easy to prepare and it sounds really good.  I like the fact the the ingredients are simple and are usually ones that I already have on hand.  I can't wait to try it and share it with my family and friends.

Much easier recipe that can be whipped up in 1 minute.  Ketchup, brown mustard, A-1 steak sauce and Worcestershire sauce. There are so many spices in the brown mustard, steak sauce and W. sauce that there's no need to add anything else. I don't like adding brown sugar to barbeque sauce because it burns when its on the grill! No need to measure amounts either. I use mostly ketchup and just throw in the other 3 ingredients until it tastes right.

I don't think that I'd ever use liquid smoke in anything else. I think I might try this recipe without that ingredient just let the grill add its own smoke flavor. It sounds like it will taste really good.

I like to add orange zest/juice to my BBQ sauce. My husband and daughter love it that way!

Homemade BBq sauce makes great sandwiches with chopped beef or ground beef.

I bet if you left out the honey and used artifical brown sugar you could have the same taste and cut alot of the calories.

You might like to try liquid smoke in meatloaf and in baked beans. A light sprinkling on any sauteed meats is yummy, too. Lots of uses for liquid smoke if you like to experiment. I've been using it for years.
